The commitment of academics to bridging the gap between cutting-edge technology and the real-world needs of the manufacturing industry has once again been demonstrated, as a team from the Faculty of Computer Science within the COMNETS-SPCIES Group took strategic steps to drive digital transformation in the manufacturing sector. Through community service and technological collaboration, the team of experts explored the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to optimize operations at the PT Sumatera Prima Fibreboard (SPF) factory in Indralaya.

The atmosphere in the corridors of the Executive Wing at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Central General Hospital (RSMH) in Palembang today marked a new milestone in medical digitization in South Sumatra. A cutting-edge healthcare innovation—Smart Health—the result of two years of in-depth research by faculty members from the Faculty of Computer Science, Computer Systems students, and doctoral alumni at Sriwijaya University (UNSRI), was officially tested and installed directly in the Executive Wing.

The Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Central Hospital (RSUP) in Palembang continues its digital transformation efforts toward the “Smart Hospital” concept. As part of developing this transformation roadmap, the RSMH team conducted a working visit to the COMNETS-SPCIES Laboratory at the Faculty of Computer Science, Sriwijaya University, to explore various technological innovations that could potentially be implemented in the hospital environment, particularly in hospital management and services.

COMNETS alumni and doctoral students from Sriwijaya University conducted a workshop on transparency and traceability using blockchain in collaboration with the industry in South Sumatra to support SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure)
A number of alumni and doctoral students in the field of Informatics within the Doctoral Program in Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Sriwijaya University, held a scientific dissemination event discussing the use of blockchain technology to improve transparency and traceability in the distribution of subsidized fertilizer. The event took place in Palembang and involved a strategic collaboration with Pupuk Indonesia. This event is part of the dissertation completion process for candidate Merry Agustina, M.M., M.Kom., a doctoral student at Sriwijaya University, with Prof. Ir. Deris Stiawan, MT. Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN Eng as her advisor and Dr. Yesi Novaria Kunang, S.T., M.Kom., as her co-advisor.

In an effort to foster integration between the academic world and the industrial sector (link and match), the Alumni Sub-Directorate of Sriwijaya University (Unsri) initiated exploratory discussions on collaboration with PT Sumatera Prima Fiberboard (SPF), marked by a visit from SPF to the Alumni Sub-Directorate on April 27, 2026. This visit focused on finalizing technology-based community service programs as well as research internship programs for students, which are planned to take place in the coming period.

COMNETS RG officially welcomes Prof. Dr. Mohammad M. Kadhum as its newest Editorial Board Member. He is a Professor in the School of Advanced Technology at Algonquin College, Canada, specializing in Information and Communications Technology — Security, Systems & Networking. His expertise encompasses computer networking, network performance, and IoT systems, with notable research contributions including Traffic Signature Detection for Unknown Internet Worms. His presence in the Editorial Board is expected to bring valuable insights in the areas of network security and ICT systems, further strengthening the academic depth of COMNETS View.
