COMNETS RG x LINUX PLG Meetup #4 Online

COMNETS Research Group Fakultas Ilmu Komputer (FASILKOM) UNSRI bekerja sama dengan IAMUNSRI by CDC Subdirektorat Alumni, Direktorat Kerja Sama, Internasionalisasi, dan Alumni (DKIA) Universitas Sriwijaya, menyelenggarakan kegiatan keilmuan bertema How to Fiber Optic Termination. Kegiatan rutin ini menjadi wadah pembelajaran bagi mahasiswa untuk memperkuat pemahaman sekaligus meningkatkan keterampilan praktis di bidang jaringan komputer dan teknologi serat optik.
Bertempat di Aula Gedung Diklat FASILKOM UNSRI, Bukit Besar, kegiatan ini dirancang dalam dua sesi utama, yaitu pemaparan teori dan praktikum terminasi fiber optic secara langsung. Melalui pendekatan pembelajaran yang menggabungkan teori dan praktik, peserta diharapkan mampu memahami proses penyambungan, penggunaan peralatan, serta penanganan kabel fiber optic sesuai dengan tahapan yang benar.

Sesi teori menghadirkan dua narasumber dari IAMUNSRI, yaitu Nurul Afifah, M.Kom., dosen Program Studi Sistem Komputer FASILKOM UNSRI, dan Adi Hermansyah, M.T (Kandidat Doktor di FT UNSRI)., dosen Program Studi Teknik Komputer UNSRI. Keduanya merupakan bagian dari tim peneliti utama COMNETS Research Group. Dalam pemaparannya, narasumber menjelaskan konsep dasar, fungsi, peralatan, serta tahapan dalam tiga teknik terminasi fiber optic, yakni fusion, connector, dan Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP).

Kegiatan ini diikuti oleh lebih dari 100 mahasiswa yang mengambil mata kuliah Jaringan Komputer dari Program Studi Sistem Komputer, Sistem Informasi, dan Teknik Komputer. Antusiasme peserta dalam mengikuti rangkaian kegiatan menunjukkan pentingnya pembelajaran berbasis praktik untuk mendukung penguasaan kompetensi teknis, khususnya dalam bidang infrastruktur jaringan dan komunikasi data.
Setelah sesi teori, kegiatan dilanjutkan dengan praktikum yang membagi peserta ke dalam kelompok sesuai dengan teknik terminasi yang dipelajari. Setiap kelompok didampingi mahasiswa yang sebelumnya telah mengikuti kegiatan Training of Trainers (ToT) terminasi fiber optic. Pendampingan ini memungkinkan peserta memperoleh arahan secara langsung, mulai dari pengenalan peralatan hingga praktik pelaksanaan terminasi.

Pada kelompok fusion, praktikum dipandu oleh Nabila, Floreetha Tiara Cantika, Muhammad Rasyad Aqila Faza, Akbar Wida Nugraha, dan M. Raja Faiz. Para pendamping membimbing peserta mengenali peralatan serta mempraktikkan tahapan penyambungan serat optik menggunakan teknik fusion.
Sementara itu, kelompok SFP didampingi oleh Zahid Wazifa, Ridho Hidayah Putra, Raihan, Randy, dan Rafi Afdhal. Adapun kelompok connector dipandu oleh Paulus, Ammar, Nazlia, Mohammad Arief Akbar, dan Muhammad Daffa Zaidan S. Dalam setiap kelompok, para pendamping memberikan arahan mengenai penggunaan alat, tahapan pengerjaan, serta aspek teknis yang perlu diperhatikan agar proses terminasi dapat dilakukan dengan tepat.

Pelaksanaan kegiatan ini merupakan salah satu bentuk implementasi materi pembelajaran pada mata kuliah Jaringan Komputer ke dalam pengalaman praktik yang relevan dengan kebutuhan penguasaan teknologi jaringan. Mahasiswa tidak hanya memperoleh pemahaman konseptual, tetapi juga kesempatan untuk mengenal dan mempraktikkan teknik terminasi fiber optic secara langsung.
Melalui kolaborasi IAMUNSRI by CDC Subdit Alumni DKIA UNSRI dan COMNETS Research Group FASILKOM UNSRI, kegiatan How to Fiber Optic Termination diharapkan dapat terus menjadi ruang pengembangan kompetensi, berbagi pengetahuan, serta penguatan keterampilan teknis mahasiswa. Sinergi ini sekaligus mendukung upaya Universitas Sriwijaya dalam mempersiapkan talenta muda yang adaptif terhadap perkembangan teknologi dan memiliki kompetensi yang dibutuhkan di dunia kerja, khususnya pada bidang jaringan komputer dan teknologi komunikasi.

The COMNETS Research Group at the Faculty of Computer Science (FASILKOM) of UNSRI, in collaboration with IAMUNSRI—a program of the CDC Subdirectorate of Alumni, Directorate of Cooperation, Internationalization, and Alumni (DKIA) at Sriwijaya University, organized an academic event titled “How to Perform Fiber Optic Termination.” This regular event serves as a learning platform for students to strengthen their understanding and enhance their practical skills in the fields of computer networking and fiber optic technology.
Held in the Auditorium of the FASILKOM UNSRI Training Building in Bukit Besar, the event was structured into two main sessions: a theoretical presentation and a hands-on fiber optic termination lab. Through a learning approach that combines theory and practice, participants are expected to understand the splicing process, the use of equipment, and the handling of fiber-optic cables in accordance with the correct procedures.

The theoretical session featured two speakers from IAMUNSRI: Nurul Afifah, M.Kom., a lecturer in the Computer Systems Study Program at FASILKOM UNSRI, and Adi Hermansyah, M.T. (Ph.D. candidate at the Faculty of Engineering, UNSRI), a lecturer in the Computer Engineering Program at UNSRI. Both are part of the core research team of the COMNETS Research Group. In their presentations, the speakers explained the basic concepts, functions, equipment, and steps involved in the three fiber-optic termination techniques: fusion splicing, connectors, and Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP).

This event was attended by more than 100 students enrolled in the Computer Networks course from the Computer Systems, Information Systems, and Computer Engineering programs. The participants’ enthusiasm in taking part in the series of activities underscored the importance of practice-based learning in supporting the mastery of technical competencies, particularly in the fields of network infrastructure and data communication.
Following the theoretical session, the activity continued with a hands-on lab where participants were divided into groups based on the termination technique they were studying. Each group was mentored by students who had previously participated in the Fiber Optic Termination Training of Trainers (ToT) program. This mentorship allowed participants to receive direct guidance, ranging from equipment familiarization to hands-on termination practice.

In the fusion group, the hands-on session was led by Nabila, Floreetha Tiara Cantika, Muhammad Rasyad Aqila Faza, Akbar Wida Nugraha, and M. Raja Faiz. The mentors guided participants in familiarizing themselves with the equipment and practicing the steps for splicing optical fibers using the fusion technique.
Meanwhile, the SFP group was mentored by Zahid Wazifa, Ridho Hidayah Putra, Raihan, Randy, and Rafi Afdhal. The connector group was led by Paulus, Ammar, Nazlia, Mohammad Arief Akbar, and Muhammad Daffa Zaidan S. In each group, the instructors provided guidance on the use of tools, the work procedures, and the technical aspects that needed to be considered to ensure the termination process was carried out correctly.

This activity serves as a practical application of the course material from the Computer Networks course, providing hands-on experience relevant to mastering networking technology. Students not only gain conceptual understanding but also have the opportunity to learn about and practice fiber optic termination techniques firsthand.
Through the collaboration between IAMUNSRI by CDC (Alumni Sub-Directorate of DKIA UNSRI) and the COMNETS Research Group at FASILKOM UNSRI, the “How to Perform Fiber Optic Termination” activity is expected to continue serving as a platform for competency development, knowledge sharing, and the strengthening of students’ technical skills. This synergy also supports Sriwijaya University’s efforts to prepare young talent who are adaptable to technological developments and possess the competencies required in the workforce, particularly in the fields of computer networking and communication technology.

Pencapaian ini diraih melalui kolaborasi bersama mahasiswa Program Studi Sistem Komputer angkatan 2023, yaitu Ahmad Dani Nursyah, Aulia Putri Raffliana, dan Aisyah Putri Ramadhani Rafael. Dalam kompetisi yang mengusung tema &ldquo;Designing Chips for Real World Impact&rdquo; ini, tim mengusulkan inovasi berjudul &ldquo;PADAN: Akselerator Pencocokan Biometrik di Dalam Chip dengan Integritas Komputasi Berbasis ABFT.&rdquo; Inovasi ini menjadi bagian dari upaya mahasiswa dalam mengembangkan solusi teknologi berbasis chip yang menjawab kebutuhan dunia nyata. Semoga keberhasilan melaju ke babak final ini menjadi motivasi untuk terus mengembangkan inovasi, memperkuat kolaborasi, dan menghasilkan karya teknologi yang bermanfaat bagi masyarakat.

This achievement was made possible through collaboration with students from the Computer Systems Study Program’s Class of 2023: Ahmad Dani Nursyah, Aulia Putri Raffliana, and Aisyah Putri Ramadhani Rafael. In this competition, themed “Designing Chips for Real-World Impact,” the team proposed an innovation titled “PADAN: An On-Chip Biometric Matching Accelerator with ABFT-Based Computational Integrity.” This innovation is part of the students’ efforts to develop chip-based technological solutions that address real-world needs. Hopefully, their success in advancing to the finals will serve as motivation to continue developing innovations, strengthening collaboration, and producing technological works that benefit society.
