Palembang, 12 Agustus 2026 &mdash; Rangkaian kegiatan Diaspora Berdampak di Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI) memasuki hari kedua dengan menghadirkan Prof. Dr. Rahmat Budiarto, full professor di Al Baha University, Arab Saudi, yang telah berkiprah di universitas tersebut sejak 2014. Kegiatan ini merupakan bagian dari program Mobility Research untuk Diaspora yang terselenggara melalui hibah dari Direktorat Bina Talenta Penelitian dan Pengembangan, Direktorat Jenderal Riset dan Pengembangan, Kementerian Pendidikan Tinggi, Sains, dan Teknologi. Program ini diinisiasi untuk memperkuat pertukaran pengetahuan, pengembangan talenta, serta jejaring dan kolaborasi riset antara akademisi di Indonesia dan diaspora Indonesia yang berkiprah di perguruan tinggi luar negeri. Prof. Rahmat Budiarto memiliki kepakaran yang sejalan dengan bidang riset Kelompok Keilmuan COMNETS Fakultas Ilmu Komputer Universitas Sriwijaya, khususnya dalam bidang jaringan komputer dan keamanan siber. Kiprah akademiknya di tingkat internasional didukung oleh berbagai publikasi ilmiah bereputasi, penghargaan, serta pengalaman dalam berbagai hibah dan proyek penelitian internasional.

Melanjutkan rangkaian kegiatan hari pertama, sesi hari kedua difokuskan pada penguatan kemampuan peneliti dan mahasiswa dalam menghasilkan publikasi ilmiah yang berkualitas dan berpeluang diterima di jurnal bereputasi. Dalam sesi tersebut, Prof. Rahmat secara khusus membahas strategi menulis artikel ilmiah, mulai dari tahap awal penyusunan naskah hingga strategi menghadapi proses publikasi pada jurnal internasional. Peserta mendapatkan pemahaman mengenai tahapan penting dalam menghasilkan manuskrip ilmiah, termasuk bagaimana menentukan fokus penelitian, membangun argumentasi ilmiah, menyusun struktur artikel, menyajikan hasil penelitian secara sistematis, hingga memastikan kontribusi penelitian dapat dipahami dengan jelas oleh pembaca dan reviewer. Prof. Rahmat juga memberikan penekanan pada berbagai hal yang &ldquo;do and don't&rdquo; dalam penulisan artikel ilmiah. Hal-hal yang tampak sederhana dalam proses penulisan, namun dapat menentukan kualitas sebuah manuskrip, dibahas secara lebih mendalam berdasarkan pengalaman publikasi dan penelitian internasional yang telah dijalankannya. Tidak hanya berfokus pada aspek teknis penulisan, peserta juga diajak memahami bagaimana melihat sebuah penelitian dari perspektif editor dan reviewer. Strategi dalam memilih jurnal yang sesuai dengan bidang penelitian, menyesuaikan naskah dengan scope jurnal, memperkuat novelty, serta menghindari kesalahan umum yang dapat menyebabkan manuskrip ditolak menjadi bagian penting dalam sesi ini. Pembahasan tersebut memberikan perspektif praktis bagi mahasiswa, alumni, dan peneliti UNSRI untuk meningkatkan kualitas publikasi serta membangun budaya penelitian yang lebih berorientasi pada standar akademik internasional. Program Diaspora Berdampak menjadi salah satu langkah nyata untuk menjadikan pengalaman dan jejaring diaspora Indonesia sebagai kekuatan dalam memperkuat talenta riset, meningkatkan daya saing akademik, dan membawa hasil penelitian Universitas Sriwijaya ke dalam jejaring penelitian internasional.

Sesi berikutnya membahas tema yang tidak kalah strategis, yaitu peluang dan sinergi kolaborasi penelitian antara peneliti serta alumni Universitas Sriwijaya dengan mitra akademik di luar negeri, khususnya di Arab Saudi. Prof. Rahmat menjelaskan berbagai peluang yang dapat dikembangkan melalui jejaring akademik dan penelitian internasional. Pengalaman selama berkiprah di Al Baha University menjadi salah satu pintu masuk untuk memperkenalkan potensi kolaborasi yang dapat dilakukan oleh peneliti dan alumni UNSRI. Dalam pemaparannya, Prof. Rahmat menyoroti perkembangan agenda riset di Arab Saudi yang saat ini semakin banyak diarahkan pada isu sustainability dan Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Kondisi tersebut membuka ruang bagi peneliti dari berbagai disiplin ilmu untuk membangun kolaborasi yang tidak hanya menghasilkan publikasi ilmiah, tetapi juga memberikan kontribusi terhadap penyelesaian persoalan nyata dan pembangunan berkelanjutan. Sejumlah strategi pendukung kolaborasi turut dibahas secara lebih rinci, mulai dari bagaimana membangun jejaring dengan peneliti internasional, mengidentifikasi tema penelitian yang memiliki kepentingan bersama, membangun proposal kolaboratif, hingga mengembangkan penelitian yang berpotensi memperoleh dukungan pendanaan internasional. Kegiatan hari kedua Diaspora Berdampak memperlihatkan bahwa kehadiran diaspora Indonesia di perguruan tinggi luar negeri dapat memainkan peran strategis dalam memperkuat konektivitas ekosistem riset Indonesia dengan komunitas akademik global. Bagi sivitas akademika UNSRI, pengalaman Prof. Rahmat memberikan akses terhadap perspektif, pengalaman, dan jejaring penelitian yang berkembang di lingkungan akademik internasional. Transfer pengetahuan tersebut diharapkan dapat mendorong peningkatan kualitas publikasi sekaligus membuka lebih banyak peluang kolaborasi riset lintas negara. Melalui kegiatan ini, COMNETS FASILKOM UNSRI terus mendorong penguatan kapasitas peneliti dan mahasiswa agar mampu menghasilkan penelitian yang memiliki relevansi global. Kolaborasi dengan diaspora diharapkan tidak berhenti pada kegiatan berbagi pengetahuan, tetapi dapat berkembang menjadi publikasi bersama, penelitian kolaboratif, pertukaran akademik, serta kerja sama internasional yang berkelanjutan.

Palembang, August 12, 2026 — The “Diaspora Berdampak” event series at Sriwijaya University (UNSRI) entered its second day with a presentation by Prof. Dr. Rahmat Budiarto, a full professor at Al Baha University in Saudi Arabia, who has been serving at that university since 2014. This event is part of the Research Mobility for the Diaspora program, funded by a grant from the Directorate of Research and Development Talent Development, Directorate General of Research and Development, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology. This program was initiated to strengthen knowledge exchange, talent development, as well as research networking and collaboration between academics in Indonesia and the Indonesian diaspora working at universities abroad. Prof. Rahmat Budiarto’s expertise aligns with the research focus of the COMNETS Research Group at the Faculty of Computer Science, University of Sriwijaya, particularly in the fields of computer networks and cybersecurity. His international academic achievements are supported by numerous reputable scientific publications, awards, and experience in various international research grants and projects.

Continuing the series of activities from the first day, the second day’s session focused on strengthening the capabilities of researchers and students to produce high-quality scientific publications with a good chance of being accepted in reputable journals. During the session, Prof. Rahmat specifically discussed strategies for writing scientific articles, ranging from the initial stages of manuscript preparation to strategies for navigating the publication process in international journals. Participants gained an understanding of the key stages in producing a scientific manuscript, including how to determine the research focus, build a scientific argument, structure the article, present research results systematically, and ensure that the research’s contributions are clearly understood by readers and reviewers. Prof. Rahmat also emphasized various “dos and don’ts” in scientific writing. Aspects that may seem simple in the writing process but can determine a manuscript’s quality were discussed in greater depth based on his experience with international publications and research. Beyond focusing on the technical aspects of writing, participants were also guided to understand how to view a research study from the perspective of editors and reviewers. Key strategies covered in this session included selecting journals appropriate for their research field, aligning the manuscript with the journal’s scope, highlighting the novelty of the work, and avoiding common mistakes that could lead to manuscript rejection. This discussion provided a practical perspective for UNSRI students, alumni, and researchers to improve the quality of their publications and foster a research culture more aligned with international academic standards. The “Impactful Diaspora” program is a concrete step toward leveraging the experience and networks of the Indonesian diaspora as a strength to bolster research talent, enhance academic competitiveness, and bring the research outcomes of Sriwijaya University into international research networks.

The next session addressed an equally strategic theme: opportunities and synergies for research collaboration between researchers and alumni of Sriwijaya University and academic partners abroad, particularly in Saudi Arabia. Prof. Rahmat outlined various opportunities that can be developed through international academic and research networks. His experience working at Al Baha University served as a gateway to introducing potential collaborations that UNSRI researchers and alumni could pursue. In his presentation, Prof. Rahmat highlighted the evolving research agenda in Saudi Arabia, which is increasingly focused on sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This situation opens opportunities for researchers from various disciplines to build collaborations that not only result in scientific publications but also contribute to solving real-world problems and promoting sustainable development. A number of strategies to support collaboration were also discussed in greater detail, ranging from how to build networks with international researchers, identify research themes of mutual interest, develop collaborative proposals, to advancing research with the potential to secure international funding. The activities on the second day of “Diaspora Berdampak” demonstrated that the presence of the Indonesian diaspora at foreign universities can play a strategic role in strengthening the connectivity between Indonesia’s research ecosystem and the global academic community. For the UNSRI academic community, Prof. Rahmat’s experience provides access to perspectives, experiences, and research networks that are thriving within the international academic environment. This knowledge transfer is expected to drive improvements in the quality of publications while opening up more opportunities for cross-border research collaboration. Through this initiative, COMNETS FASILKOM UNSRI continues to promote capacity building among researchers and students so they can produce research with global relevance. It is hoped that collaboration with the diaspora will not stop at knowledge-sharing activities but will evolve into joint publications, collaborative research, academic exchanges, and sustainable international cooperation.

Diaspora Berdampak Hari Kedua di Universitas Sriwijaya, Bahas Strategi Publikasi Ilmiah dan Kolaborasi Riset Internasional dalam Rekognisi UNSRI menjadi World Class University

Second Day of the “Diaspora Berdampak” Event at Sriwijaya University: Discussing Strategies for Scientific Publications and International Research Collaboration to Support UNSRI’s Recognition as a World-Class University

JAKARTA &mdash; Mahasiswa Doktoral di FT UNSRI dalam kajian di COMNETS RG yang sehari-hari Dosen Universitas Bina Darma, Akhmad Khudri, M.Kom. (selaku Lead System &amp; AI Architect) bersama Dodi Setiawan, S.Kom., M.S.I., dosen Politeknik Bintan Cakrawala (selaku ketua tim) berhasil membawa platform BlueCarbon AI melangkah hingga babak Grand Final dan melakukan pitching nasional pada ajang BRIN AIDeaNation 2026. Acara bergengsi yang diselenggarakan oleh Organisasi Riset Elektronika dan Informatika (OREI) BRIN ini berlangsung pada 11&ndash;12 Agustus 2026 di AI Stage &amp; AI Pavilion, JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta.
Mengusung tema utama &ldquo;AI for Sustainable Future&rdquo;, ajang ini menjaring puluhan inovasi berbasis Artificial Intelligence terbaik dari seluruh perguruan tinggi, lembaga riset, dan startup di Indonesia untuk menjawab tantangan keberlanjutan masa depan. Inovasi BlueCarbon AI dirancang untuk mengatasi krisis ekosistem pesisir melalui pendekatan participatory AI-centered design dan infrastruktur sistem tingkat tinggi, dengan tahapan pengembangan ide sebagai berikut:

Selama dua hari pameran dan pitching di hadapan dewan juri pakar BRIN serta audiens industri, modul Web3 Carbon Vault menjadi salah satu sorotan utama. Dewan juri memberikan apresiasi tinggi atas keberanian tim dalam mengintegrasikan pipeline dMRV secara langsung pada prototipe interaktif. Diskusi hangat juga berfokus pada keakuratan model estimasi karbon biru yang dikalibrasi menggunakan data riil kawasan pesisir lokal.
Pendekatan on-device AI inference pada Ranger App yang memungkinkan masyarakat pesisir (citizen ranger) melakukan verifikasi kesehatan mangrove secara otomatis langsung dari ponsel tanpa tergantung sinyal internet juga tak lepas dari perhatian tim juri.&nbsp;

Sistem ini menunjukkan aliran data yang utuh: mulai dari pemetaan satelit di Desa Berakit &amp; Kawal, verifikasi lapangan oleh Pokmas lokal, pencetakan token kredit karbon di Polygon POS Smart Contract dengan metadata IPFS, kepatuhan terhadap nilai ESG, hingga mekanisme corporate offset (token burning) yang menerbitkan sertifikat Soulbound NFT bagi mitra perusahaan.

Deris Stiawan, Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN Eng, mampu bersaing di level tertinggi nasional.

Pengembangan BlueCarbon AI yang menggabungkan AI dan Blockchain, menjadi bukti nyata komitmen tim dalam menghadirkan riset tepat guna berstandar industri untuk mendukung konservasi lingkungan dan ekonomi hijau di Indonesia.

JAKARTA — Akhmad Khudri, M.Kom., a doctoral student at the Faculty of Engineering, UNSRI, who is also a lecturer at Bina Darma University (serving as Lead System &amp; AI Architect), along with Dodi Setiawan, S.Kom., M.S.I., a lecturer at Bintan Cakrawala Polytechnic (as team leader), successfully advanced the BlueCarbon AI platform to the Grand Final round and delivered a national pitch at the BRIN AIDeaNation 2026 event. This prestigious event, organized by BRIN’s Electronics and Informatics Research Organization (OREI), took place on August 11–12, 2026, at the AI Stage &amp; AI Pavilion, JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta.
With the main theme “AI for a Sustainable Future,” the event brought together dozens of the best Artificial Intelligence-based innovations from universities, research institutions, and startups across Indonesia to address future sustainability challenges. The BlueCarbon AI innovation is designed to address the coastal ecosystem crisis through a participatory, AI-centered design approach and high-level system infrastructure, with the following stages of idea development:

<li style="font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;">Identification of On-the-Ground Issues: Based on data showing the loss of 453.16 hectares of mangroves on Bintan Island, as well as conservation data that has long been manually scattered across various agencies, the team identified the need for a single, integrated intelligence layer.</li>

This aligns with the team’s dissertation research focus, where AI-verified carbon data integrity is directly transformed into Tokenized Carbon Credits (ERC-20) and Soulbound Impact NFTs (dNFTs) on the Polygon Green L2 network in a transparent, immutable, and auditable manner.</li>

During the two-day exhibition and pitch session before a panel of BRIN expert judges and an industry audience, the Web3 Carbon Vault module emerged as one of the main highlights. The judging panel highly commended the team’s boldness in directly integrating the dMRV pipeline into an interactive prototype. Lively discussions also focused on the accuracy of the blue carbon estimation model, which was calibrated using real-world data from local coastal areas.
The on-device AI inference approach in the Ranger App—which allows coastal communities (citizen rangers) to automatically verify mangrove health directly from their phones without relying on an internet connection—also caught the attention of the judging panel.

This system demonstrates a complete data flow: starting from satellite mapping in the villages of Berakit and Kawal, field verification by local community groups, the minting of carbon credit tokens on the Polygon POS Smart Contract with IPFS metadata, compliance with ESG values, to the corporate offset mechanism (token burning) that issues Soulbound NFT certificates for corporate partners.

Although competition in the final round was extremely fierce—with strong teams from renowned universities such as ITS and ITB as well as established startups— making it into the ranks of the top national finalists in this BRIN event proves that the quality of research and technological engineering from the two doctoral students at Sriwijaya University—under the guidance of Prof. Ir. Deris Stiawan, Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN Eng, is capable of competing at the highest national level.

Palembang, 11 Agustus 2026 &mdash; Kelompok Keilmuan COMNETS Fakultas Ilmu Komputer Universitas Sriwijaya (FASILKOM UNSRI) menyelenggarakan kegiatan Mobility Research untuk Diaspora sebagai bagian dari upaya memperkuat jejaring riset, transfer pengetahuan, serta kolaborasi internasional di bidang ilmu komputer, khususnya jaringan komputer dan keamanan siber. Kegiatan diikuti puluhan peserta yang berasal dari berbagai jenjang, mulai dari mahasiswa dan alumni program sarjana hingga mahasiswa program doktoral Universitas Sriwijaya. Kegiatan ini terselenggara melalui hibah dari Direktorat Bina Talenta Penelitian dan Pengembangan, Direktorat Jenderal Riset dan Pengembangan, Kementerian Pendidikan Tinggi, Sains, dan Teknologi. Program tersebut menghadirkan Prof. Dr. Rahmat Budiarto, diaspora Indonesia yang saat ini berkiprah sebagai full professor di Al Baha University, Arab Saudi, sejak 2014. Prof. Rahmat memiliki kepakaran yang sejalan dengan bidang riset Kelompok Keilmuan COMNETS, terutama dalam jaringan komputer dan keamanan siber. Kiprahnya di tingkat internasional telah ditandai dengan berbagai publikasi di reputasi dunia, penghargaan serta keterlibatan dalam sejumlah hibah dan proyek penelitian di luar negeri. Kehadiran Prof. Rahmat di Universitas Sriwijaya menjadi momentum strategis untuk mempertemukan pengalaman akademisi Indonesia yang berkiprah di luar negeri dengan sivitas akademika UNSRI. Tidak hanya memberikan wawasan mengenai perkembangan ilmu dan teknologi terkini, kegiatan ini juga diarahkan untuk membuka peluang kolaborasi riset internasional dan memperkuat kapasitas peneliti muda. Acara dibuka secara resmi oleh perwakilan Subdirektorat Alumni Universitas Sriwijaya. Prof. Deris Stiawan. Ph.D. Dalam sambutannya, turut dipaparkan isu strategis mengenai &ldquo;Jobs and the Future of Work&rdquo;, terutama berkaitan dengan perubahan kebutuhan, karakteristik, dan paradigma dunia kerja di tengah perkembangan teknologi digital dan kecerdasan buatan (Artificial Intelligence/AI). Perubahan teknologi yang semakin cepat telah memengaruhi berbagai sektor pekerjaan. Fenomena layoff di sejumlah industry terutama pada Perusahaan teknologi serta perubahan pola dan jenis pekerjaan menjadi salah satu tantangan yang perlu dipahami oleh lulusan perguruan tinggi. Karena itu, perguruan tinggi tidak hanya dituntut menghasilkan lulusan dengan kompetensi akademik, tetapi juga membekali mereka dengan kemampuan beradaptasi, belajar sepanjang hayat, berpikir kritis, dan memahami perkembangan teknologi. Perspektif tersebut menjadi semakin relevan bagi mahasiswa dan alumni karena dunia kerja saat ini mengalami transformasi yang sangat cepat. Kompetensi yang dibutuhkan tidak lagi hanya berorientasi pada kemampuan teknis tertentu, tetapi juga kemampuan untuk berkolaborasi, berinovasi, memecahkan masalah, dan beradaptasi dengan teknologi baru. Ditambahkan juga, teknologi bukan lagi sekadar alat bantu pekerjaan. Teknologi mulai ikut menentukan: pekerjaan apa yang diciptakan, pekerjaan apa yang berubah, pekerjaan apa yang hilang, dan keterampilan apa yang menjadi mahal.

Sesi berikutnya diisi oleh Prof. Dr. Rahmat Budiarto yang memaparkan perkembangan dan arah riset terkini dalam bidang computer science, dengan penekanan pada jaringan komputer dan keamanan siber. Dalam paparannya, Prof. Rahmat menjelaskan berbagai tantangan yang muncul seiring perkembangan Artificial Intelligence, transformasi jaringan komputer, serta meningkatnya kompleksitas ancaman keamanan siber. Perkembangan AI di satu sisi memberikan peluang besar untuk meningkatkan kemampuan sistem komputasi dan jaringan, namun di sisi lain juga menghadirkan tantangan baru dalam menjaga keamanan dan keandalan sistem digital. Berbagai topik riset potensial turut diperkenalkan kepada peserta, termasuk perkembangan teknologi jaringan, keamanan siber, serta peluang penelitian yang relevan dengan kebutuhan industri dan perkembangan teknologi global. Selain membahas perkembangan keilmuan, Prof. Rahmat juga berbagi pengalaman mengenai sejumlah proyek penelitian dan kolaborasi internasional yang telah dilakukannya selama berkiprah di luar negeri. Pengalaman tersebut memberikan gambaran kepada peserta mengenai bagaimana penelitian di bidang ilmu komputer dikembangkan, dikolaborasikan, dan diarahkan agar memiliki kontribusi di tingkat internasional. Antusiasme peserta terlihat dalam sesi diskusi. Sejumlah mahasiswa mengajukan pertanyaan mengenai peluang riset, perkembangan teknologi AI, keamanan siber, serta bagaimana mahasiswa dapat mempersiapkan diri untuk berkarier dan melanjutkan penelitian di tingkat global.

Kegiatan kemudian dilanjutkan dengan sesi diskusi dan progress report mahasiswa doktoral yang tengah melakukan penelitian dalam bidang keamanan siber, khususnya pada Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). Dalam sesi tersebut, mahasiswa memaparkan perkembangan penelitian yang saat ini berada pada tahap literature review. Diskusi bersama Prof. Rahmat diarahkan untuk memperkuat pemetaan penelitian, mengidentifikasi research gap, serta melihat peluang pengembangan topik penelitian agar memiliki kontribusi ilmiah yang lebih kuat. Interaksi antara profesor diaspora dan mahasiswa doktoral menjadi salah satu bagian penting dalam kegiatan Mobility Research ini. Pertukaran pengalaman dan perspektif diharapkan dapat membantu mahasiswa memperoleh masukan langsung dari akademisi yang memiliki pengalaman riset internasional. Program Mobility Research untuk Diaspora di Universitas Sriwijaya menunjukkan bahwa diaspora Indonesia yang berkiprah di berbagai perguruan tinggi dunia memiliki potensi besar untuk menjadi jembatan kolaborasi akademik dan riset internasional. Bagi Universitas Sriwijaya, kehadiran Prof. Dr. Rahmat Budiarto bukan hanya menjadi kesempatan untuk mendapatkan wawasan mengenai perkembangan ilmu komputer global, tetapi juga menjadi ruang untuk membangun jejaring penelitian dan membuka peluang kolaborasi yang lebih luas. Melalui kegiatan seperti ini, COMNETS FASILKOM UNSRI mendorong agar hubungan antara akademisi di dalam negeri dan diaspora Indonesia di luar negeri tidak berhenti pada kegiatan berbagi pengetahuan, tetapi berkembang menjadi kolaborasi riset, publikasi ilmiah, pengembangan talenta, serta jejaring akademik internasional yang berkelanjutan. Di tengah percepatan transformasi digital dan perkembangan AI, penguatan sumber daya manusia serta jejaring riset global menjadi semakin penting. Kehadiran diaspora Indonesia dengan pengalaman akademik dan penelitian internasional diharapkan dapat memberikan dampak nyata bagi pengembangan ekosistem riset dan inovasi di Universitas Sriwijaya.

Palembang, August 11, 2026 — The COMNETS Research Group at the Faculty of Computer Science, Sriwijaya University (FASILKOM UNSRI), organized a Mobility Research event for the diaspora as part of efforts to strengthen research networks, knowledge transfer, and international collaboration in the field of computer science, particularly computer networks and cybersecurity. The event was attended by dozens of participants from various levels, ranging from undergraduate students and alumni to doctoral students at Sriwijaya University. This event was made possible through a grant from the Directorate of Research and Development Talent Development, Directorate General of Research and Development, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology. The program featured Prof. Dr. Rahmat Budiarto, an Indonesian scholar who has served as a full professor at Al Baha University in Saudi Arabia since 2014. Prof. Rahmat’s expertise aligns with the research focus of the COMNETS Research Group, particularly in computer networks and cybersecurity. His international contributions have been marked by numerous publications in world-renowned journals, awards, and involvement in various grants and research projects abroad. Prof. Rahmat’s visit to Sriwijaya University serves as a strategic opportunity to bring together the expertise of Indonesian academics working abroad with the UNSRI academic community. In addition to providing insights into the latest developments in science and technology, this event is also aimed at opening opportunities for international research collaboration and strengthening the capabilities of young researchers. The event was officially opened by a representative from the Alumni Subdirectorate of Sriwijaya University, Prof. Deris Stiawan, Ph.D. In his remarks, he addressed strategic issues regarding “Jobs and the Future of Work,” particularly concerning changes in the needs, characteristics, and paradigms of the workforce amid the development of digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI). Rapid technological change has impacted various sectors of the workforce. Layoffs in a number of industries—particularly in technology companies—as well as shifts in work patterns and job types represent challenges that college graduates must understand. Therefore, universities are not only required to produce graduates with academic competencies but also to equip them with the ability to adapt, engage in lifelong learning, think critically, and understand technological developments. This perspective is becoming increasingly relevant for students and alumni as the world of work is currently undergoing rapid transformation. The competencies required are no longer limited to specific technical skills but also include the ability to collaborate, innovate, solve problems, and adapt to new technologies. Furthermore, technology is no longer merely a tool to aid work. Technology is beginning to play a decisive role in determining which jobs are created, which jobs are transformed, which jobs disappear, and which skills become highly valued.

The next session was led by Prof. Dr. Rahmat Budiarto, who presented the latest developments and research directions in the field of computer science, with an emphasis on computer networks and cybersecurity. In his presentation, Prof. Rahmat explained the various challenges arising from the development of Artificial Intelligence, the transformation of computer networks, and the increasing complexity of cybersecurity threats. On one hand, advancements in AI offer significant opportunities to enhance the capabilities of computing systems and networks; on the other hand, they also present new challenges in maintaining the security and reliability of digital systems. Various potential research topics were also introduced to the participants, including advancements in networking technology, cybersecurity, and research opportunities relevant to industry needs and global technological developments. In addition to discussing academic developments, Prof. Rahmat also shared his experiences regarding a number of research projects and international collaborations he has undertaken during his time abroad. These experiences provided participants with insight into how research in computer science is developed, collaborated on, and directed to make a contribution at the international level. The participants’ enthusiasm was evident during the discussion session. Several students asked questions about research opportunities, advancements in AI technology, cybersecurity, and how students can prepare themselves for careers and continue their research on a global scale.

The event then continued with a discussion session and progress reports from doctoral students currently conducting research in the field of cybersecurity, specifically on the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). During this session, the students presented the progress of their research, which is currently in the literature review phase. The discussion with Prof. Rahmat was aimed at strengthening research mapping, identifying research gaps, and exploring opportunities to develop research topics to ensure a stronger scientific contribution. The interaction between diaspora professors and doctoral students was a key component of this Mobility Research program. The exchange of experiences and perspectives is expected to help students gain direct input from academics with international research experience. The Mobility Research Program for the Diaspora at Sriwijaya University demonstrates that the Indonesian diaspora active at various universities around the world has great potential to serve as a bridge for international academic and research collaboration. For Sriwijaya University, the visit by Prof. Dr. Rahmat Budiarto is not only an opportunity to gain insights into global developments in computer science but also a platform to build research networks and open up broader opportunities for collaboration. Through activities like this, COMNETS FASILKOM UNSRI encourages the relationship between domestic academics and the Indonesian diaspora abroad to go beyond mere knowledge-sharing and evolve into research collaboration, scientific publications, talent development, and sustainable international academic networks. Amid the accelerating pace of digital transformation and advancements in AI, strengthening human resources and global research networks has become increasingly important. COMNETS Research Group (COMNETS RG) menyelenggarakan Roadshow Diaspora Talk Series sebagai bagian dari upaya menyukseskan Program Diaspora Indonesia&ndash;Saudi Arabia. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di empat perguruan tinggi mitra, yaitu Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta (UPNV Jakarta), Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI), Universitas Muhammadiyah Kotabumi (UMKO), dan Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (UNSOED).
Roadshow ini menjadi wadah berbagi pengetahuan dan pengalaman bagi dosen, peneliti, serta mahasiswa dalam memperluas wawasan mengenai perkembangan riset terkini, strategi publikasi ilmiah bereputasi, serta peluang membangun kolaborasi penelitian dengan perguruan tinggi di tingkat internasional. Kegiatan ini menghadirkan Prof. Dr. Rahmat Budiarto, Diaspora Indonesia yang berkiprah di Al-Baha University, sebagai narasumber utama yang membagikan pengalaman dan perspektifnya mengenai pengembangan riset dan jejaring akademik global.

The COMNETS Research Group (COMNETS RG) organized the Diaspora Talk Series Roadshow as part of its efforts to ensure the success of the Indonesia–Saudi Arabia Diaspora Program. This event was held at four partner universities: the Jakarta Veteran National Development University (UPNV Jakarta), Sriwijaya University (UNSRI), Muhammadiyah Kotabumi University (UMKO), and Jenderal Soedirman University (UNSOED).
This roadshow served as a platform for faculty members, researchers, and students to share knowledge and experiences, broadening their perspectives on the latest research developments, strategies for publishing in reputable scientific journals, and opportunities to build research collaborations with universities at the international level. The event featured Prof. Dr. Rahmat Budiarto, an Indonesian scholar based at Al-Baha University, as the keynote speaker, who shared his experiences and perspectives on research development and global academic networking.
In addition to serving as a forum for scientific discussion, the event was also used to present updates on ongoing research, evaluate achievements to date, and formulate directions for future research development and collaboration.
