National Palm Oil Research Champion! Unsri Computer Engineering Team Wins BPDPKS 2025 Competition with "GROW" Innovation

Another proud achievement at the national level has been made by young talents from the Computer Engineering Study Program, Sriwijaya University. Under the guidance of lecturer Aditya P.P. Prasetyo, M.T., this team of students won the prestigious 2025 Student Palm Oil Research Competition.
Organized by the Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDPKS), this competitive event challenges students from all over Indonesia to provide the best research solutions for the advancement of the national palm oil industry.
This victory was achieved thanks to their innovative research entitled GROW: Implementation of an IoT-Based Weather Prediction System with Machine Learning for Irrigation Optimization in Peatland Palm Oil Plantations.
The GROW project offers a crucial Smart Farming technology solution. As is well known, water management in peatlands is a major challenge in palm oil plantations. By integrating the Internet of Things (IoT) for real-time monitoring and Machine Learning for precise weather prediction, this system is able to automate irrigation efficiently.
The result is optimized water use that not only maintains crop productivity but also preserves the peatland ecosystem so that it remains moist and avoids the risk of fire. This achievement proves that UNSRI Computer Engineering students are capable of applying hardware engineering and artificial intelligence to solve real problems in the agricultural sector.
All students of the Computer Network, Enterprise, and Information Security Study Group at Sriwijaya University would like to congratulate the student team and Mr. Aditya P.P. Prasetyo, M.T., as their supervising lecturer. We hope that the GROW innovation can be implemented soon and have a broad impact on the Indonesian palm oil industry.
