His main research interest is studying randomness and its applications in cyber security. His latest work on extracting strong cryptographic keys from ECG signals has been funded by InnovativeUK. He has more than 40 peer reviewed research articles and supervised more than 20 postgraduate students in the fields of computing, networking and cyber security.&nbsp; Prof. Hassan Chizari currently is the Cisco Network Academy Manager in University of Gloucestershire and supervise the Cisco Lab for students in all levels. He teaches a broad range of subjects including networking and advance networking topics. Prof. Hassan Chizari&rsquo;s latest work is to use body physiological signals to extract randomness from the body. The first part of this research has been publishes in IEEE Transaction on Dependable and Secure Computing. This research also secured two InnovativeUK fund and currently in collaboration with Crossword company, Prof. Hassan Chizari is exploring the possibility of converting the research to the product.

Upaya meningkatkan transparansi dan akuntabilitas dalam distribusi pupuk bersubsidi terus menjadi perhatian pemerintah dan pemangku kepentingan sektor pertanian. Salah satu pendekatan inovatif yang tengah dikaji adalah penerapan teknologi blockchain dalam sistem manajemen rantai pasok (CM) pupuk bersubsidi. Untuk memastikan rancangan arsitektur sistem ini mampu memenuhi kebutuhan kualitas yang diharapkan, dilakukan evaluasi menggunakan metode Architecture Tradeoff Analysis Method (ATAM).
Untuk itu, Sejumlah alumni dan mahasiswa program doktor bidang kajian Informatika di Program Doktor Ilmu Teknik, Fakultas Teknik Universitas Sriwijaya menggelar kegiatan diseminasi ilmiah yang membahas pemanfaatan teknologi blockchain untuk meningkatkan transparansi dan traceability dalam distribusi pupuk bersubsidi. Kegiatan ini berlangsung di Palembang dan melibatkan kolaborasi strategis dengan Pupuk Indonesia. Kegiatan ini merupakan bagian proses penyelesaian disertasi dari kandidat Merry Agustina, M.M., M.Kom., mahasiswa Program Doktoral di Universitas Sriwijaya, dengan promotor Prof. Ir. Deris Stiawan, MT. Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN Eng &nbsp;dan Dr. Yesi Novaria Kunang, S.T., M.Kom., sebagai ko-promotor.

Pada kegiatan ini juga menghadirkan berbagai pemangku kepentingan atau stakeholder, baik kalangan industri maupun akademisi. Perwakilan industri berasal dari PT Pupuk Indonesia Holding Company, sementara akademisi hadir para mahasiswa Doktoral Mgs. Afriyan Firdaus dan Dendi Renaldo Permana dimana bidang kajiannya dalam Web 2.0 di Blockchain serta penggiat smart contract di Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI), hadir juga alumni Doktoral UNSRI Dr. Ery Hartati yang saat ini aktif di Universitas Multi Data Palembang dan Dr. Agustina dengan affliasi di Universitas Indo Global Mandiri (UIGM). 
Rancangan sistem berbasis blockchain ini bertujuan menciptakan mekanisme distribusi yang transparan, aman, dan dapat ditelusuri (traceable) dari hulu hingga hilir. Setiap transaksi&mdash;mulai dari produsen, distributor, hingga petani&mdash;dicatat dalam ledger terdistribusi yang tidak dapat diubah. Dengan demikian, potensi penyimpangan seperti penyelewengan distribusi atau manipulasi data dapat diminimalkan.&nbsp;
Dalam forum tersebut, pemakalah mempresentasikan hasil kajian dan riset terkini terkait penerapan blockchain dalam sistem rantai pasok pupuk. Teknologi ini dinilai mampu menciptakan sistem pencatatan distribusi yang lebih terbuka, aman, dan tidak mudah dimanipulasi. Setiap proses, mulai dari produksi hingga penyaluran ke petani, dapat ditelusuri secara real-time melalui sistem berbasis distributed ledger. Mengevaluasi rancangan arsitektur Sistem Supply Chain Management (SCM) Pupuk Bersubsidi berbasis teknologi blockchain dengan menggunakan pendekatan metode ATAM.&nbsp;
Dalam proses evaluasi menggunakan ATAM, tim analis mengidentifikasi berbagai quality attributes utama, seperti keamanan (security), kinerja (performance), skalabilitas, dan kemudahan penggunaan. Skenario-skenario penggunaan disusun untuk menguji bagaimana sistem merespons kondisi nyata, misalnya lonjakan transaksi saat musim tanam atau kebutuhan verifikasi data secara cepat di daerah terpencil.
Selain paparan teknis, kegiatan diseminasi ini menjadi wadah pertukaran ide antara akademisi dan praktisi industri. Para mahasiswa doktor turut memaparkan pendekatan evaluasi arsitektur sistem, termasuk penggunaan metode analisis untuk memastikan bahwa solusi yang dirancang tidak hanya inovatif, tetapi juga andal dan berkelanjutan. Melalui kolaborasi ini, diharapkan tercipta langkah konkret menuju transformasi digital dalam tata kelola pupuk bersubsidi di Indonesia. Sinergi antara dunia akademik dan industri dinilai menjadi kunci dalam menghadirkan sistem distribusi yang lebih transparan, akuntabel, dan tepat sasaran bagi para petani.&nbsp;

Perwakilan dari Pupuk Indonesia menyambut positif inisiatif ini dan menilai bahwa inovasi berbasis digital sangat dibutuhkan untuk menjawab tantangan distribusi pupuk bersubsidi yang selama ini rentan terhadap ketidaktepatan sasaran. Diskusi juga menyoroti pentingnya integrasi teknologi dengan sistem yang sudah ada, serta kesiapan infrastruktur dan sumber daya manusia dalam mendukung implementasi blockchain. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa teknologi blockchain memberikan keunggulan signifikan dalam aspek transparansi dan traceability. Dalam kesempatan tersebut dijelaskan dari perwakilan Industri yaitu tim penjualan PT. Pupuk Indonesia regional 1B yang membawahi wilayah sumatera selatan Jambi, Bengkulu, Bangka Belitung dan Lampung. Sebagai Gambaran awal di sumsel terdapat lebih dari 530 kios, dengan dua juta lebih petani. Dalam pertanyaan stakeholder tersebut bertanya apakah mungkin system ini dapat menyimpan data dalam jumlah banyak dan aman dan bagaimana proses bisnisnya. Pada intinya mereka menyambut baik sistem blockchain yang disusun untuk membantu dalam proses transparansi dan traceability pupuk bersubsidi
Dalam kesempatan terpisah Ketua Prodi Doktor Ilmu Teknik Fakultas Teknik UNSRI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Nukman mengatakan sangat mendukung dan mendorong kegiatan desiminasi dan sharing bersama industry agar penelitian yang dihasilkan dapat dihilirisasi dan berdampak bagi Industri dan mendukung menyukseskan SDGs 9. Selain itu, dijelaskan kembali oleh Prof. Deris Stiawan yang beberapa tahun ini aktif dalam penelitian di Industri, mengatakan ATAM juga mengungkap risiko terkait integrasi dengan sistem eksisting serta dapat menjadi ukuran kesiapan sumber daya manusia dalam mengoperasikan teknologi ini. Oleh karena itu, rekomendasi yang dihasilkan mencakup penerapan arsitektur hibrida, optimalisasi mekanisme konsensus, serta pelatihan intensif bagi pengguna system harus menjadi perhatian utama.
Dengan evaluasi yang komprehensif melalui ATAM, rancangan arsitektur sistem CM pupuk bersubsidi berbasis blockchain diharapkan dapat diimplementasikan secara efektif dan berkelanjutan. Langkah ini menjadi bagian penting dalam mendukung transformasi digital sektor pertanian Indonesia menuju sistem yang lebih transparan, efisien, dan berkeadilan. FGD ini diharapkan menjadi kontribusi nyata dalam pengembangan solusi teknologi informasi inovatif dan relevan terhadap kebutuhan industri, khususnya dalam mendukung tata kelola distribusi pupuk bersubsidi lebih akuntabel dan efektif.&nbsp;

Efforts to improve transparency and accountability in the distribution of subsidized fertilizer continue to be a priority for the government and stakeholders in the agricultural sector. One innovative approach currently under consideration is the implementation of blockchain technology in the supply chain management (SCM) system for subsidized fertilizer. To ensure that the proposed system architecture meets the expected quality requirements, an evaluation was conducted using the Architecture Tradeoff Analysis Method (ATAM).
To that end, a number of alumni and doctoral students in the Informatics program at the Doctoral Program in Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Sriwijaya, held a scientific dissemination event discussing the use of blockchain technology to improve transparency and traceability in the distribution of subsidized fertilizer. This event took place in Palembang and involved strategic collaboration with Pupuk Indonesia. This event is part of the dissertation completion process for candidate Merry Agustina, M.M., M.Kom., a doctoral student at Sriwijaya University, with Prof. Ir. Deris Stiawan, MT., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN Eng., as the supervisor, and Dr. Yesi Novaria Kunang, S.T., M.Kom., as the co-supervisor.

The event also featured various stakeholders, including representatives from both industry and academia. Industry representatives came from PT Pupuk Indonesia Holding Company, while the academic participants included doctoral students Mgs. Afriyan Firdaus and Dendi Renaldo Permana, whose research focuses on Web 2.0 in Blockchain and smart contracts at Sriwijaya University (UNSRI). Also present were UNSRI doctoral alumni Dr. Ery Hartati, who is currently active at Multi Data University in Palembang, and Dr. Agustina, affiliated with Indo Global Mandiri University (UIGM). 
This blockchain-based system design aims to create a transparent, secure, and traceable distribution mechanism from upstream to downstream. Every transaction—from producers, distributors, to farmers—is recorded in an immutable distributed ledger. Thus, the potential for irregularities such as distribution fraud or data manipulation can be minimized. 
During the forum, the presenter shared the latest research findings on the application of blockchain in fertilizer supply chain systems. This technology is considered capable of creating a distribution tracking system that is more open, secure, and resistant to manipulation. Every process, from production to distribution to farmers, can be tracked in real-time through a distributed ledger-based system. Evaluating the architectural design of a Blockchain-based Subsidized Fertilizer Supply Chain Management (SCM) System using the ATAM methodology. 
During the ATAM evaluation process, the analyst team identified key quality attributes, such as security, performance, scalability, and usability. Use cases were developed to test how the system responds to real-world conditions, such as transaction spikes during planting season or the need for rapid data verification in remote areas.
Beyond technical presentations, this dissemination event served as a platform for exchanging ideas between academics and industry practitioners. The doctoral students also presented their system architecture evaluation approach, including the use of analytical methods to ensure that the designed solution is not only innovative but also reliable and sustainable. Through this collaboration, concrete steps toward digital transformation in the management of subsidized fertilizer in Indonesia are expected to emerge. Synergy between the academic and industrial sectors is considered key to delivering a distribution system that is more transparent, accountable, and targeted for farmers.

Representatives from Pupuk Indonesia welcomed this initiative positively and noted that digital-based innovations are urgently needed to address the challenges of subsidized fertilizer distribution, which has long been prone to misallocation. The discussion also highlighted the importance of integrating technology with existing systems, as well as the readiness of infrastructure and human resources to support blockchain implementation. Evaluation results indicate that blockchain technology offers significant advantages in terms of transparency and traceability. During the event, representatives from the industry—specifically the sales team of PT Pupuk Indonesia Regional 1B, which oversees the regions of South Sumatra, Jambi, Bengkulu, Bangka Belitung, and Lampung—provided an overview. As an initial snapshot, in South Sumatra alone there are over 530 retail outlets serving more than two million farmers. Stakeholders asked whether this system could securely store large amounts of data and how the business process would work. Essentially, they welcomed the blockchain system designed to support transparency and traceability in the distribution of subsidized fertilizer.
On a separate occasion, the Head of the Doctoral Program in Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, UNSRI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Nukman, stated that he strongly supports and encourages dissemination and collaboration with industry so that the resulting research can be commercialized and have an impact on the industry, thereby supporting the success of SDG 9. Additionally, Prof. Deris Stiawan, who has been actively involved in industry research over the past few years, reiterated that ATAM also identifies risks related to integration with existing systems and can serve as a measure of human resource readiness in operating this technology. Therefore, the resulting recommendations include the implementation of a hybrid architecture, optimization of consensus mechanisms, and intensive training for system users, which must be prioritized.
With a comprehensive evaluation through ATAM, the design of the blockchain-based architecture for the subsidized fertilizer management system is expected to be implemented effectively and sustainably. This step is a crucial part of supporting the digital transformation of Indonesia’s agricultural sector toward a more transparent, efficient, and equitable system. This FGD is expected to make a tangible contribution to the development of innovative and industry-relevant information technology solutions, particularly in supporting more accountable and effective governance of subsidized fertilizer distribution.

Alumni COMNETS dan Mahasiswa Doktor Universitas Sriwijaya melaksanakan desiminasi Transparansi dan Traceability dengan Blockchain Bersama Industri di Sumatera Selatan untuk Mendukung SDGs 9 (Industri, Inovasi & Infrastruktur)

COMNETS alumni and doctoral students from Sriwijaya University conducted a workshop on transparency and traceability using blockchain in collaboration with the industry in South Sumatra to support SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure)

INDRALAYA &ndash; Dalam upaya mewujudkan integrasi antara dunia akademik dan sektor industri (link and match), Sub Direktorat Alumni Universitas Sriwijaya (Unsri) melaksanakan penjajakan kerjasama dengan PT Sumatera Prima Fiberboard (SPF) yang ditandai dengan kunjungan SPF ke Subdit alumni pada tanggal 27 April 2026 kemarin.&nbsp; Kunjungan ini difokuskan pada pematangan program pengabdian kepada masyarakat berbasis teknologi serta program magang riset bagi mahasiswa yang direncanakan berjalan pada periode mendatang.
Salah satu poin utama kolaborasi ini adalah implementasi program pengabdian dalam bentuk pengembangan sistem informasi industri. Tim peneliti dari Unsri memaparkan beberapa peluang kolaborasi yang bisa dilakukan diantaranya: Peranan Agentic AI untuk&nbsp; mengatur jadwal produksi secara otomatis, mendeteksi kerusakan mesin sebelum terjadi (predictive maintenance),&nbsp; menganalisis data produksi harian pabrik, fokus pada downtime mesin, dan mengoptimalkan supply chain; Prompt engineering untuk pengembangan dashboard industri untuk membuat AI benar-benar jadi co-pilot analitik dan peningkatan Kualitas Produk (Quality Control); serta Knowledge Management System (KMS): Implementasi metode AI seperti Fuzzy String Matching untuk mengelola pengetahuan perusahaan dan meningkatkan kinerja karyawan. TIm peneliti juga memaparkan chatbot industri sebagai layer operasional yang mempercepat respon, menurunkan biaya, dan meningkatkan kualitas layanan secara konsisten, dimana dari chatbot AI sekadar &ldquo;penjawab pertanyaan&rdquo; menjadi jadi asisten operasional, analis data, dan bahkan eksekutor tugas
Sementara itu dari pihak PT Sumatera Prima Fiberboard juga memaparkan kebutuhan mereka akan sistem pemantauan panel digital yang dirancang khusus untuk meningkatkan efisiensi operasional perusahaan. Sistem ini diharapkan dapat mencakup dua fitur utama yaitu sistem monitoring kecepatan produksi dan dashboard efisiensi energi terbaharukan. Sistem Monitoring Kecepatan Produksi merupakan Pengembangan panel digital untuk memantau kecepatan mesin pengolah cacahan kayu (wood chipper) secara real-time. Teknologi ini bertujuan untuk mengoptimalkan output produksi serta memudahkan pengawasan performa mesin secara presisi.Sementara itu Dashboard Efisiensi Energi Terbaruka merupakan pembangunan antarmuka (interface) yang mengalkulasi penghematan biaya dari penggunaan panel surya. Sistem ini akan mengonversi data penghematan energi ke dalam satuan mata uang Rupiah (IDR), sehingga manajemen perusahaan dapat memantau efektivitas investasi energi terbarukan secara langsung.Harapannya Implementasi sistem monitoring ini bukan sekadar digitalisasi visual, melainkan langkah menuju data-driven decision making. Dengan integrasi sensor tersebut, perusahaan akan memiliki basis data yang akurat untuk melakukan analisis prediktif terhadap konsumsi energi dan target produksi bulanan.
Selain aspek teknologi informasi, kerja sama ini mencakup program magang mandiri yang diarahkan pada penyusunan Tugas Akhir atau Skripsi mahasiswa. Fokus riset yang diangkat adalah studi efektivitas pemanfaatan limbah pabrik sebagai pupuk organik terhadap berbagai varietas tanaman yang berbeda. Studi ini bertujuan mendukung konsep Circular Economy melalui metodologi eksperimental yang ketat. Mahasiswa akan memetakan respons fisiologis tanaman terhadap kandungan nutrien hasil sampingan produksi fiberboard. Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan rekomendasi ilmiah bagi perusahaan dalam mengelola sisa produksi secara lebih bernilai guna, sekaligus mereduksi jejak karbon industri. Validasi data tersebut nantinya dapat menjadi referensi teknis bagi pengembangan produk sampingan (by-product) perusahaan di masa depan.
Kolaborasi multidisiplin yang menggabungkan aspek teknik informatika dan agroteknologi ini mencerminkan fleksibilitas kurikulum pendidikan tinggi dalam merespons dinamika sektor privat. Melalui program magang dan pengabdian yang terstruktur, Universitas Sriwijaya memastikan bahwa mahasiswa tidak hanya menguasai teori di ruang kelas, tetapi juga mampu memecahkan masalah kompleks di lapangan dengan standar industri.

INDRALAYA – In an effort to foster integration between the academic world and the industrial sector (link and match), the Alumni Sub-Directorate of Sriwijaya University (Unsri) explored a potential partnership with PT Sumatera Prima Fiberboard (SPF), marked by a visit from SPF to the Alumni Sub-Directorate on April 27, 2026.  This visit focused on finalizing technology-based community service programs as well as research internship programs for students, which are planned to run in the coming period.
One of the key points of this collaboration is the implementation of community service programs in the form of industrial information system development. The research team from Unsri presented several potential collaboration opportunities, including: The role of Agentic AI in automatically scheduling production, detecting machine failures before they occur (predictive maintenance), analyzing daily factory production data, focusing on machine downtime, and optimizing the supply chain; Prompt engineering for developing industrial dashboards to make AI a true analytical co-pilot and enhance Product Quality (Quality Control); and Knowledge Management System (KMS): Implementing AI methods such as Fuzzy String Matching to manage corporate knowledge and improve employee performance. The research team also presented industrial chatbots as an operational layer that accelerates response times, reduces costs, and consistently improves service quality, where AI chatbots evolve from mere “question answerers” into operational assistants, data analysts, and even task executors
Meanwhile, PT Sumatera Prima Fiberboard also outlined their need for a custom-designed digital panel monitoring system to improve the company’s operational efficiency. This system is expected to include two main features: a production speed monitoring system and a renewable energy efficiency dashboard. The Production Speed Monitoring System involves the development of a digital panel to monitor the speed of wood chipper machines in real-time. This technology aims to optimize production output and facilitate precise monitoring of machine performance. Meanwhile, the Renewable Energy Efficiency Dashboard is the development of an interface that calculates cost savings from the use of solar panels. This system will convert energy savings data into Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) currency units, allowing company management to directly monitor the effectiveness of renewable energy investments. The hope is that the implementation of these monitoring systems goes beyond mere visual digitization; rather, it represents a step toward data-driven decision-making. With the integration of these sensors, the company will have an accurate database to conduct predictive analysis of energy consumption and monthly production targets.
Beyond the information technology aspect, this collaboration includes an independent internship program focused on the preparation of students’ final projects or theses. The research focus is on studying the effectiveness of utilizing factory waste as organic fertilizer for various plant varieties. This study aims to support the Circular Economy concept through rigorous experimental methodology. Students will map the physiological responses of plants to the nutrient content of byproducts from fiberboard production. The research findings are expected to provide scientific recommendations for the company to manage production residues in a more value-added manner, while simultaneously reducing the industry’s carbon footprint. Validation of this data will serve as a technical reference for the development of the company’s future by-products.
This multidisciplinary collaboration, which combines aspects of computer science and agrotechnology, reflects the flexibility of higher education curricula in responding to the dynamics of the private sector. Through structured internship and community service programs, Sriwijaya University ensures that students not only master classroom theory but are also capable of solving complex problems in the field to industry standards.
